Sugar and Spice

and TUTUs right??

Dressing and finding clothes for a little girl is so much fun for me.  Today I made my first tutu.  It is one of two that I am making for Emmy Lu’s 3 month photos that I am taking next week.  I don’t want to give it all away but here is a taste of my first homemade tutu.

I’m in LOVE with frills, flowers, and all things girly today.

2nd time around…

They say that you get more relaxed with every kid you have.  If that is the case I might just be mistaken for a burned out “Dead Head” by the time I have our 3rd child.

With Tanner I pre washed EVERYTHING in Dreft- bedding, blankets, onsies, booties, hats, etc.

I sterilized the bottles TWICE before using.

I would touch his lips while he took a long nap to make sure he was breathing.

I cried and lamented for days when I couldn’t breastfeed any longer.

I was so careful, nervous about changing his diaper, clothes, etc.

I fretted each and every time he made a peep.

I religiously bathed him every other day and did not miss a beat.

Oh how things have changed….

With Emmy Lu I washed a few things (in NORMAL detergent) that were in storage but new outfits..I toss right on her.

If she is sleeping I take advantage of the time to play with Tanner, clean, make my lists etc…No lip checking here.

I had a whatever happens, happens mentality about breastfeeding and things are going AWESOME.

I fly through diaper and clothing changes like a well trained pit crew worker.

If she starts to squirm I wait that extra second to make sure if she really means it or is just getting out some kinks.

I bath her when I remember or have time…Don’t get me wrong..It is frequently enough but for sure NOT the strict schedule I had with Tanner.

I am amused at all my friends who are becoming first time moms and am a tad envious of that first time mom OCD. But mostly am thankful that the second time around seems so much easier and WAY less stressful.  In a few more weeks I am pretty sure I could do my daily routine with Tanner and Emmy Lu with one hand tied behind my back.

One thing that has NOT changed is how much I love and adore her.  I try not to compare Emmy Lu and Tanner but they are just so darn similar it is hard not to.  So far Emmy Lu is happy, relaxed and seems VERY content.  She hardly cries, gives us lots of smiles and is such an easy baby.  Just like her brother….

People said that I really lucked out with Tanner and that there would be NO WAY I could luck out with two chillaxed little ones.  I am happy that Emmy Lu is so far proving all those people wrong…

I might be pressing my luck in expecting more relaxed children in the future but so far my track record is giving me no reason to stop creating and raising these adorable, loving, sweet little creatures.

Our Sweet Emmy Lu

DSC_0083

On Monday morning @ 5:14 am we finally met our sweet little baby GIRL!!!  Emmeline Lucille 7lbs 12 oz 20.5inches long.  I was so excited to even out the “teams” in our house and to have a little princess to dress up!!!

Here is her birth story.  My water broke @ 10:30 pm Sunday night.  I was sure it was my water breaking because the same thing happened with Tanner.  UNLIKE Tanner’s birth though, contraction started almost immediately after.  I took a shower and we decided to head to the hospital.  We arrived @ St Mary’s in Duluth @ 1am.  After checking in (which involved asking me 1,000,000 questions) I was only dialated to 3.5cm and the contractions were coming stronger and regularly.  The resident was not convinced that my labor was going anywhere and let me just hang out for a while.  In the meantime, the contractions kept coming and I kept breathing through them but I could tell that it was starting to move faster, so could my nurse (she was AWESOME)  They were about to hook up my IV when they just decided to check me again to see where I was and surprise surprise I was dialated to almost 9.  Needless to say there was barely enough time to get the delivery stuff set up so an epidural or any type of pain management was out of the question.  (Which is what I was hoping for but didn’t know if I would have the strength/guts to pull off).  I told the nurse that I needed to push so I started.  (Paul said he could see the head before the resident doc or nurse was even there).  Three quick pushes later I had our sweet, wonderful, prefect little girl!!!

I am completely and utterly in love again.  She is sweet, calm and PERFECT!!  We are both doing really well and came home from the hospital this morning.  I have to say that delivery without the epidural was WAY WAY WAY better than my epidural/pitocin delivery with Tanner.  I am just so happy that I was able to bring another healthy, wonderful baby into this world!

We are waiting for Tanner to wake up so that we can introduce the siblings.  I am excited/nervous to see his reaction.  In the meantime, here are some pictures of our Sweet Emmy Lu.

Paul grabbed the camera in time to get a couple pictures!!  Good work Daddy!!

Due Date Pics and Update

Paul and I had a great day on our Due Date-Date today.  We ran some necessary errands, went to eat @ Fitger’s Brewhouse on Lake Superior then had ice cream along the lake walk on Lake Superior.  It was 80, sunny and still in Duluth today (a VERY RARE but WONDERFUL occurrence) .  Here are a couple pictures of us today.  I have to admit that I caught my profile a couple times today in shop windows etc and thought..holy cow that lady is UBER pregnant.

Doctor/Baby Update:

*Warning*-Lady parts terms used

I still have not progressed very much as far as dialation and effacement.  (I have been sitting at the same point for weeks now).  The baby’s heartbeat is good and strong and I am still checking out healthy as a can be (Great BP, Weight, etc).  My doctor feels comfortable letting me see what happens over the next week BUT if I do not go into labor on my own, I go to the hospital next Thurs night for some “cervix ripening where they will insert a small balloon type thing in my cervix to help me dialate.  Then Friday morning the 1st of July, my doctor would like to schedule me to get induced (via pitocin).  She explained the risks of going much over 41 weeks and I agree.  The baby is measuring normal and is head down, he/she just isn’t ready to come out yet.

Although I will try everything in my power to avoid a medically induced labor (walking, spicy food, lovin’, more walking, etc) it is at least reassuring to know that there is a plan in place-just in case.  So all of you waiting to hear of Deuce’s arrival fear not…U will have just one more week at most to wait to hear some news.

In the mean time..if you need me, I will be keeping busy and trying to kick start this labor.

Countdown is on!!

We sold our house!! It was all finalized last Monday and boy do I feel like I can breath a whole lot better now :) It is just a HUGE thing to have off my mind before this baby comes. Also, because I haven't posted a pregnancy picture for a while, here is me today. I was dressed up because I attended 2 baby showers. I was a baby shower hopper today dodging tornadoes and everything to get from point A to point B. I am 35 1/2 weeks along and chugging toward the finish line. My due date is in 1 month!! The countdown is on...can't wait to sit back, relax, and wait for this baby!!!

20 Weeks- Half way there!!

Since this is my second pregnancy and I am fully occupied (obsessed) with Tanner most days, I find that I am not documenting as much as I did with my first.  But I am already to 20 weeks!!!  Yay for that!  And EEEEK to that!!   I can’t believe how soon I will be the mother of Tanner AND a new little baby.  I am equally excited for this one but just find it harder to sit back, relax and enjoy the pregnancy as much as I did with Tanner.  I am really going to make a point to document and pay as much care, and attention to this pregnancy as I possibly can.  I have an ultrasound on Friday which we will NOT be finding out the sex of the baby.  As much as I have the urge to find out if I should be buying pink or washing and hanging up the all the blue I had for Tanner, I will again be hanging up all the yellow and green.  It’s ok though because I have been garage sale-ing and thrift store shopping enough to have a decent supply of newborn girl clothes (just in case).  I don’t have any inclinations and my dreams aren’t much help either.  Two days ago I had a dream that I had another little boy but than last night I was breast-feeding a little girl.  Guess we’ll have to wait until June.

Here are pictures of me today @ 20 weeks:

Oh little “Deuce”..I am getting so excited to meet you!!!

December 4, 2010

Big News...HUGE actually

Days 3, 4 and 5 of cookie posts will be available Sunday. I've been a little too busy to get them baked much less posted....BECAUSE....Baby #2 ("Deuce" as Paul has dubbed it) had his/her first prenatal check up yesterday!!!! Yep, family of 4 coming your way in June 2011. We spent the whole day in Duluth having the first check up (Blood work, questions and and that jazz) The doctor also picked up a heartbeat of 150, same as Tanner's always was. We couldn't be happier!!

Today, I also found something better to do than baking...I am going to visit my new 1 week old nephew and take his newborn pictures for him. I am excited to hold and meet the little man!!!

So, we'll see you on Sunday for Sour Cream Cookies, Raspberry Treasures, and Peppermint Shortbread bites.
